Metro Santa Cruz Montana is so amazing. Occasionally you have to stop on the road and let a herd of Bighorn sheep make their way across the road. While waiting you might take shelter in a truck stop, where there might be a rock band bashing it out. That was Chojo Jacques' first gig. After quickly realizing that guitar players are freaking useless, he switched over to the fiddle, and then regressed to frets, and took up the mandolin. Since then he has had some really fun gigs, the Waybacks and the Lost Highway Band primarily, but he has also strapped on the mando for most other "newgrass" bands up in the SF Bay Area at one point or the other. Like his former fellow Waybacks performers, he is a master of the low-key wit, and his public persona is an irreverent mix of Tom Lehrer and, I dunno, Ghandi. Maybe that's a stretch. Now playing out on his own, Chojo and friends will bring a mix of Americana, bluegrass, folk, and god knows what else to the stage, while not taking themselves too seriously. |
