AUGUST
2006
There should be plenty
of opportunities to come on out to shake 'n sweat in
the next couple of months. All kinds of hot locales
and steamy venues are on tap. I was just perspiring
at a couple of Los Angeles gigs with my pals Houston
Jones (www.houstonjones.com),
including Mel Gibson's Booze n' Jews Rehab Cruise.
Much tequila and ranting was had by all, but I kept
a low profile, and got out of there with Mel chasing
along for just a few miles before he was pulled
over. Good thing I can put away more cactus juice
with fewer ill effects and temper.
In the next few weeks
I'll be at some fine festers and clubs, and pickin'
with some of my favorites, including the Two High
String Band (www.highstring.com).
I'll be out in Nashville at the IBMA underwater
banjo contest (www.ibma.org)
with these fellas on September 29th, and we'll be
doing a few gigs in and around Texas,
Oklahoma, and Arkansas on the way, so stay
tuned to my gig page at
www.chojo.net
for updates and gigs yet to be posted.
For all of you Oregon
friends who missed my recent Portland appearance,
I'll be at the Sisters Folk Festival, playing the
late night stage, as it should be. But I'll
make amends with an early morning gospel show, and
am quite sure that the presence of Ruthie Foster
will wash away the accumulated sins of the weekend.
Many thanks to all of
you who have come to some of my recent shows,
especially the non-airconditioned ones.
Remember - global
warming, gravity, and evolution are just theories,
and as Grandpa Jones said, "fact is stranger than
truth".
